A day off from reality

Took a day off from reality (er, payed day-job) and plan to spend it writing. So much inspiration for doing very unpleasant things to my characters and hardly any time.
So, bye Facebook, I’m going to try not to look at you before I have finished at least another chapter.

Making a scene

Usually, words just flow as soon as my fingers hit the keyboard. I don’t have to do much work for it, the words are there, right in my fingertips, ready to be released. I start typing and the flow into a scene. I have to think more about grammar and punctuation (which are a bit problematic for me, as English is not my native language and I’m quite terrible at it) then about what happens.
Action scenes require a bit more attention, because the physics have to be (marginally) right. You can’t have someone running around with three or four arms, according to the text (well, unless the character in the story actually does have that many arms). NaNoWriMo 2012

This year I participate in the NaNoWriMo 2o12. Which is the InterNational November Writing Month.This is a writing contest where you have to write 50.000 words in one month. That is: the 30 days of November.

The contest is with yourself. You won’t win any prizes, except for the honor of having made it.

Most people think this means (bad) quantity instead of fair quality, and this is in my opinion something that is heavily stimulated by the organization. I wouldn’t dare say that I usually write quality pieces, but to spend a month’s worth of energy in quantitative rubbish is a waste of my time.   [More...]
