The 4 books of the Nexus Chronicles can be downloaded for free. Though I provide them for free, I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t distribute them yourself. Please point people to my my website where they can always download the most up to date versions of the books.
Needless to say: copyrights to these books are mine. Any form of commercial exploitation by people who are not me and without my explicit written permission are strictly prohibited.
These books are a work in progress. At the moment books 1-3 are finished in the first draft status, which mean the bones of the story are there, but it lacks any kind of polishing. No spell-check, no grammar-check, no language corrections (I’m obviously not a native English speaker), no consistency checks, no line-proofing or content-editing. All that will follow, later, after I have finished the entire story, I expect that to be near the end of 2013. If I can find enough time to finish the last book by then.
The entire Chronicles will consist of 2 sets of books. Part one contains books 1-4 and part 2 will probably another 3 books.
I started these books in high school, when I was about 14 years old. I wrote them in Dutch, by hand, and as things go, put my friends and classmates in them and used them to vent my adolescent frustrations. Later I moved to a typewriter and even later I typed them on a PC in WordPerfect 5.1. I finished the books when I was 17 years old and put them on a shelf, with the idea to one day revisit them and rewrite them.
Time went by and I ignored the yen for writing until it became unbearable. So, in the winter of 2012 I started to redesign the story. Transpose it to a more ‘grown up’ setting, still staying very close to the original story. But it didn’t feel right, so I put the books back on to that shelf again.
At the start of October 2012 I decided to participate in the NaNoWriMo this year with these books. It used to be called “Zaak X” (CaseX), but I quickly renamed it to “Nexus”. I started to plot out the revised story, this time taking a cruel knife to it and cutting it to pieces. I left the main theme and story, and the core characters. The rest I either changed or cut out. What was left was the skeleton of a fresh new story. One familiar to me, but more mature.
I wrote the largest part of Sleeping Beauty during the NaNoWriMo, and finished it in December, going straight on into Prince Charming. The idea was for it to be one single book, consisting of 4 parts.
In Spring 2013 I realized this wasn’t going to work well. The second part was a long longer than the first, and the third part threatened to become twice as long as both first and second part together. So I decided on two modifications: the books were going to be separate books, with a very heaving revision of the first book. And second, the third part would be split into two books.
The story itself never changed. I have already written the ending, which was one of the first parts I wrote. It won’t become a never-ending-story, there is a clear start and a finish. But just as yours truly, it tends to ah, expand a bit in the middle.
These books are meant as light entertainment. Holiday fluff, without the feel-good angle. I had and have a lot of fun writing them, and I sincerely hope you will enjoy reading them. I can only start the polishing with ample feedback, so please, if you read them, let me know what you think of the books. If you are especially generous, provide me with more detailed feedback, preferably at the end of each chapter. Every active beta-reader will receive an honorable mention in the book(s).
These books are free to download and will always remain free. In future I may place a donate button here. You can also buy the books on Leanpub (for now) if you really like them and want me to continue writing.
And now, the books.
